Why We Tithe

A:   (Dancing around listing to his walkman)

B:  (comes up)  Hey A.

A:   (A doesn’t hear, still dancing around)

B:  A!

A:  (Still dancing)
B:  (Reaches over and pops out an ear plug!)  HEY!

A:  (Jumps)  Hey!  Hey.   Hi B.

B:  Hey there, whatcha listening to?
A:  Some new tunes I downloaded.  What are you doing?

B:  Getting ready to go to church.  Hey, you wanna come?

A:  Come where?
B:  Church?
A:  Me, come to actual church?  Youth group, or church?
B:   Church!

A:   Ah, no, church is not my idea of a good time.

B:  Why not?
A:  I don’t know, it’s such a scam, you know?
B:  A scam?  How do you figure that?
A:  You know….every time you go there, it’s the same old thing.   You go in, you sing, you listen to some guy talk, and they want money.

B:  Want money?

A:  Yeah, you know, you’re sitting there, and suddenly, these baskets come around…asking for money.

B:  Yeah....and?

A:  Always asking for money, drives me nuts!
B:  Oh, I see.   Let me ask you something, you didn’t want to come to church, but you did want to come to youth group, right?
A:  Well, yeah.

B:  Why?
A:  Because it’s fun.  We have a great time there.

B:  Yeah, we do.  You like the games?
A:  Yeah.

B:  You like the crazy stunts the pastors pull?
A:  (Laughs) yeah, those guys are nuts.

B:  You like all the prizes they give out?

A:  Oh gosh yea!  Did you see the Ipod I won last week?  (shows off what is in his hand)

B:  Yeah, I wanted that! 

A:  HA HA!  It’s mine!

B:  Glad you like it!    Did you like all the food?   

A:  Yeah!   Free pizza!

B:  Yup!  What about the movie night last month?

A:  Oh, awesome.  That was great.  I had already seen the movie, but….

B:  But all the food, all the games, all the prizes….

A:  Yeah!   It was just so cool!   My sister won this awesome blow up chair for her room.  She loves it.

B:  Glad she liked it.  Tell me, you planning on going to the Christmas party? 

A:  OH gosh yea!   Can’t wait!
B:  What about the superbowl party?

A:  Oh my gosh, they have that, too?   Oh man, bet they have awesome games for that!
B:  Yeah, I won my Redskin jersey there last year.

A:  SWEEET!  

B:  So…question…….

A:  What?

B:  How much do you pay for all these parties and prizes?
A:  What?  What do you mean?
B:  How much did it cost you?
A:  Nothing.

B:  Well, how do you think the youth group pays for this stuff?
A:  (Shrugs)  I don’t know.

B:  Well, do you think the money just falls from the sky?  That God just sorta throws the prizes down from the heavens above?

A:  Uh…..?

B:   People tithe, they give the money in church for the youth group, and all the other ministries that go on. 

A:  Oh…yeah.

B:  So by us giving 10% of our allowance each month, we are helping the youth group pay for…well, your ipod.

A:  oh…yeah….

B:   So….about going to church…..?
A:   Come on, let me go grab my wallet.

(Walk off.)
